Q & A

How large are the groups?

In a group we take care of 7 to 12 children according to their age and the size of the rooms.

How many carers are there in each group?

Depending on the size of the group, there are may be one or two qualified childcare educators, one or two trainees and one or two interns in each group. We have sufficient qualified personnel to provide cover during sickness and holidays.

How are children familiarized with the nursery?

At the beginning of the familiarization phase, an initial meeting is held with the group leader responsible. Two weeks (with the child attending two to three times per week, for a few hours) are needed for familiarization. It is important that this stage should not be interrupted by holidays or absences due to sickness.

What does the daily routine of our nursery look like?

– Greeting the children, games

– 9.00 a.m. Znüni meal break

– Activities according to the concept of Infans, sequences, games

– 11.00 a.m. Lunch

– Brushing teeth, preparation for midday nap, looking at books

– From 12.00 p.m. to about 2.00 p.m., sleeping or resting

– Walking or playing outdoors

– 3.30 p.m. Zvieri meal break

– Games until collection by parents

Must every child have a midday nap?

We do not force children to sleep. However, the midday rest appears to be for most children a good recuperation time in a long day at the nursery. We allow children who do not want to sleep to occupy themselves in some quiet activity, such as looking at books, or listening to a cassette.

When children are sick, can they come to the nursery?

As long as the children feel well and the group is not disadvantaged by the sickness, this can be allowed. Children with highly infectious diseases (such as conjunctivitis) must be cared for at home. Medicines can be dispensed only after consultation with the parents. In an emergency, the child will be taken to the doctor, or to the children’s hospital, and the parents will be duly informed.

What is the food like? What do the children eat?

We place considerable value on freshly prepared meals. We believe that it is important to have a varied mealplan including healthy quantities of fish and meat. A warm lunch is delivered to us daily in thermo boxes by the wholefood restaurant Smeiley’s. For infants, we cook separately at the nursery in line with their parents’ requirements. Also, the Znüni at 9.00 a.m as well as the Zvieri at 4.00 p.m. are prepared every day and with freshest ingredients at our nursery. We are also happy to prepare meals for children with allergies, provided that no special ingredients are required.

Are absences due to vacation and sickness refunded?

No, because your child’s place cannot be filled during those absences.

How long is the appointed period of time if we want to give notice?

You can give notice at any time. The notice period is 4 months, ending however at the end of any given month. However, the due fees have to be paid up to the time of withdrawal, even if care services are no longer required.

Why is an entrance fee required?

As a nursery we are principally interested in long-term care situations. Since we do not want to be considered just a temporary solution, we retain the entrance fee in its entirety if notice is given within the first year, but only half of the entrance fee if notice is given in the second year. If we are able to utilize the vacant place, or if the 2-year term is respected, then the entrance fee will be fully refunded. Exceptions: For valid reasons such as complete job changeover, change of residence to another town/country or serious illness of child or parents, we will return the entrance fee.

Who should I talk to in case I have questions or problems?

When the query is about the care and development of your child, the appropriate person to consult is the Group Leader. In case of a disagreement, the Nursery leader or the Managing director are at your disposal. Any query about the contract, invoices, change of group, an increased assistance, etc. should be addressed to the Administration personnel on Tel. 044 350 61 66.

Is the co-operation of the parents a must or is it just preferable?

Our institution organizes events and encounters where parents bring something to eat (cakes, salads, etc.) and we all have a pleasant time together. The parents are however not obliged in any way to cooperate or to help.
